This customer came to us wanting to overhaul the sound quality in the mids, highs, and the subwoofer department in their 2010 Mitsubishi Evo X.
The customer had a box of JBL GX600c's for the front doors and a pair of Alpine's for the rear. He also had some old amplifiers and subwoofers from previous vehicles that were perfectly good but going unused in their garage and needed a new home. The Evo had previously had an amp installed, and most of the wiring was intact when we arrived. After checking that the install was both functional and proper, we decided that we could clean it up and make it something we could be proud to put our name on.
After deciding which amp would be needed to breath new life into these Rockford P3 subwoofers, we got to work on the install!
Next up was tackling the door speakers to add some clarity to go with our bump.
After disassembling the door panels, we got to work on prepping the doors for the aftermarket speakers. We had to isolate the stock speaker wiring since we were not replacing or upgrading it, we also had to identify the factory polarity since OEM wires are usually unmarked.
Once we had the schematic figured out for the OEM system, we began mounting the 6 1/2 speakers, the tweeters, and their respective crossovers. The speakers themselves were quite a bit larger than the factory door panel would allow for mounting due to the irregular shaped opening in the door panel. This was easily remedied with a 1/2 inch speaker spacer from Metra and meant installing required no significant modifications.
