This 2010 BMW X5 contacted us about upgrading the connectivity experience in his vehicle, ultimately we decided on an addon Apple Carplay kit from an overseas manufacturer!
This install was relatively straightforward with only a few plug-and-play style connections behind the factory head unit and screen. This integration part allows the factory steering wheel controls and iDrive Controller to operate the Carplay interface since this generation of X5 does not have a touchscreen. We decided that replacing the cigar lighter in the armrest with a flush mounted USB connection would give the most factory-like operation!
