Hello there! This is David from Twelve Volt Technologies. Today, we're going to talk about the process of removing an old backup camera and installing a new one in a 2006 Mazda B3000. We added a client-provided license plate frame-style camera and connected it to the existing aftermarket JVC touchscreen radio in the dash.

First, let's talk about why the previous installation could have led to issues. Often, DIY backup camera installations don't take into account the specific needs of the vehicle and can cause problems down the line. This often includes improper wire protection, poor wiring connections, dangerous wire routing, or simply using low-quality components. Here are some examples of what we had to repair on this vehicle!

Now, let's get started with the installation process. We began by removing the old camera and checking the wiring behind the radio. We then ran new wiring from the radio to the new camera, ensuring that it was properly secured and protected from any potential damage.

At Twelve Volt Technologies, we take pride in using high-quality materials and techniques for all of our installations. For this particular installation, we used wire loom to protect the wiring from any potential damage, as well as solder and adhesive-lined heat shrink to ensure a strong and secure connection between the wiring and components. By using these materials and techniques, we can ensure a reliable and long-lasting installation that will provide us the ability to stand behind our work for life and our clients to have peace of mind while driving.

When it comes to running the wiring from the camera to outside the vehicle, we made sure to follow proper installation techniques, including passing the wire through a rubber grommet in the body of the truck to ensure it was protected from any potential wear and tear. This also helps ensure that your vehicle is properly weather sealed and protected from the elements, and you don’t need to worry about the ingress of water!

Once the wiring was properly installed, we mounted the new camera in the license plate frame and connected it to the JVC touchscreen radio. We then tested the system to ensure that everything was working correctly.
